The ‘Royal Bus’ – which you may have seen around Madejski Stadium on matchdays – was at Crosfields School earlier this week to take part in an annual football tournament!
The bus was officially unveiled at Madejski Stadium at our recent ‘Community Day’ when we hosted Hull City, as we celebrated all the work that Reading FC Community Trust in the local area.
And it went on tour for the first time by making the short trip to Crosfields, supplying some entertainment throughout the day at the school’s annual boys’ tournament. The girl’s tournament is due to follow next month.
The bus was set up with a reading area, with literature provided by the Premier League Primary Stars programme which was showcased throughout on the bottom deck. And upstairs, there were board games and colouring activities to get stuck into!
The Speed Cage – which is also at the Fun Zone every matchday – was also set up as a challenge for the children, teachers and watching parents to have a go at hitting the hardest shot.
The ultimate aim of the Royal Bus is to go to schools and host roadshows focused on a variety of topics such as healthy eating, anti-bullying and other important topics to local schools. The bus will also be used as a study support centre which will use the bus as a hub to effectively work as an extra classroom with a specialist in literacy and maths working with local children.
