After a difficult stretch of games in the opening phase of the Sky Bet Championship, Liam Kelly believes that the international break has arrived at the right time for the Royals.
“The international break has come at a good time,” Kelly explained. “But after a loss, the first thing you want to do is get back out there and put things right.
“We’ve got a two-week period now where we can get back out onto the training field and put things right ready for the game against Preston.”
A defeat in their final game before the first league break meant there would be a while for Paul Clement’s side to take to the pitch again – however, Kelly insists that morale within the camp is good and everyone is eager to put things right out on the training pitch.
“We’re missing a few players this week as they are away with their countries, but we have already got a lot of good work in so hopefully that will benefit us against Preston.
“We know how we want to play and the gaffer has been getting that across from the start. I think we’ve been unlucky in a few games as well.
“It’s important for us to not get too disappointed because there is still a long way to go.”
Next up for the Royals is a trip to Deepdale as they prepare to take on 19th placed Preston North End.
And going into that game, confidence will be key according to Kelly as the Royals look to pick up three points away from home.
“Preston are a good team,” Kelly explained. “We played them at the back end of last season and managed to win, but it was a very tough game.
“We need to go there with confidence, even though our results haven’t been good. But, we need to take confidence from what we’ve been doing on the training pitch and come out with a result.”
