We’re pleased to reveal that Academy graduate forward Danny Loader has been named on a nine-man shortlist for Premier League 2 Player of the Month for August 2018.
Three goals in as many league fixtures – as well as winning a penalty against Sunderland and featuring in a Premier League International Cup win over Leicester City – have earned the 18-year-old his nomination.
Our Under-23s’ campaign opened at Madejski Stadium, and Loader’s fine strike from outside the box against Wolverhampton Wanderers was our first in a 2-2 draw.
Then against the Foxes in the PL International Cup, Loader had a shot saved before Ben House turned in on the rebound – and then he drew a late penalty, only for the goalkeeper to save. But the Royals were 2-0 winners nonetheless.
A quick-fire double by Loader against Norwich looked like it’d have the Royals in good stead in Norfolk, but the Canaries completed a late turnaround to win 3-2. But back at Madejski Stadium at the end of the month, he was part of a strong team display which won 4-1 against Sunderland – his quick feet drew a foul in the box which allowed Gabriel Osho to fire in from the spot.
As ever, there’s stiff competition for the monthly gong.
