FULL TIME | Middlesbrough 2-1 Reading

It's a defeat on the day for the Royals, but results elsewhere mean they are now safe with a game to spare.

Reading fans have made their way to the front row of the Riverside to go and celebrate with their team, and their inflatables. Safe journey home to all who travelled.

Job done. URZ!

Four added minutes to be played here.

Yiadom breaks into the box, squaring back to Harriott with his back to goal. He tries to backheel it through the Boro defence, but they scramble it behind for a corner - which they clear.

Final substitution for the hosts, as Jordan Hugill replaces Britt Assombalonga.

Big shout for a penalty - not given!

Ejaria puts a brilliant ball through for Yiadom in the box, he's bundled over in the box but the referee waves the appeals away.

Reading may be behind at the moment, but the current score at The Hawthorns may see them safe regardless.

Time will tell, six minutes left of the 90 here.

Another change for the hosts, a defensive one as Marcus Tavernier replaces striker, Ashley Fletcher.

Good effort from Josh Barrett, who cuts back on his right to shoot.

It's on target, but Randolph holds on to stop the potential equaliser.

A change of shape too for Reading, as Rinomhota moves to right-back and Yiadom swaps flanks to left-back.

Meanwhile, assistant manager, Jorge Mendonca has been booked by the referee for remonstrating against a decision.

A double substitution for the Royals, with two Academy players given a chance to shine as Michael Olise and Josh Barrett enter the fray in place of Gunter and McCleary.

Reading break through the middle and Rinomhota plays a one-two with Gunter, looking to shoot left-footed but sees his effort blocked.

First change for the hosts, a straight swap at the base of midfield as Adam Clayton replaces Mo Besic.

Reading seeing plenty of the ball here at the Riverside, but they're unable to turn it into a clear-cut opportunity at the moment.

Garath McCleary cuts in from the left flank and tries a strike from outside the area.

Randolph sees it all the way, however, and is able to claim.

First substitution of the day for the Royals, as Callum Harriott comes on for Sam Baldock. Danny Loader likely to lead the line up front now.

Reading break quickly from a corner, with McCleary looking to play through to Baldock - but Flint slides across just in time to stop him getting a shot away.

First card of the game goes to Jonny Howson for a cynical pull on Ovie Ejaria to stop his progress in midfield.

Still plenty of time to get the point we need for survival here at the Riverside.

Unlucky from the Royals...

Yiadom steals possession on the right flank, he's able to put a low ball in trying to find Baldock - just out of reach of the striker.

What a save!

Besic fires at goal, Martínez was already at full stretch when Fletcher got a touch on it, but the goalkeeper manages to save it with his feet anyway. Fine stop from the Arsenal loanee.

Back underway for the second half.

HALF TIME | Middlesbrough 2-1 Reading

A back-and-forth half at the Riverside sees the hosts in front at the break.

Two added minutes to be played at the end of the first half here.

Howson gets the ball in again for Boro, Saville tries to convert at the far post but Reading put it behind for a corner - which is then cleared.

Assombalonga steps up to the spot and confidently dispatches the penalty, sending Emi Martínez the wrong way.

Reading trailing now.

Penalty to Boro.

Saville is halted by Yiadom in the box, Assombalonga had scored a follow-up but the referee pointed straight to the spot.

Boro go close again.

Wing arrows a low ball in, Fletcher tries to turn it in through his legs, but Martínez clings on at the crucial moment.

Boro equalise through a low drive from Lewis Wing. A cross is only half-cleared into Wing's path, and he buries it into the bottom corner.

Another good strike from Boro's Lewis Wing.

He picks his head up from 25 yards, bending a strike over every Reading defender - and the crossbar, but only just.

The Royals still lead through a screamer from Loader, you can see how much his first senior goal meant to him.

Boro hit the woodwork again.

Assombalonga has space 15 yards out to strike, but his effort hits the post. Second time this has happened for the hosts now.

Reading keep the pressure on, recycling possession and McCleary is able to feed Yiadom in the box.

He takes a touch and strikes hard - but narrowly wide of Randolph's post.

Reading break again, this time with Baldock.

A long ball goes over the top to the striker, who has time to pick his head up and shoot - but Aden Flint puts his body in the way of the shot.

Good save, Emi!

A Howson cross to the far post finds Saville in space to volley, Martínez gets across well to make a smart stop, though.

A throw-in comes in, he spins away from his man 20 yards out and bends a sumptuous effort into the top corner. You don't save those!

Off the post...

The ball breaks for Wing on the edge of the box, he bends a right-footed strike at goal but it rattles the woodwork.

Good chance for the hosts.

Lewis Wing lofts a ball into the area, with Britt Assombalonga trying to get on the end ot it - narrowly over him this time.

Further T-Rex update. The balloon made its way pitchside and got in the way of a Reading throw-in.

Matt Miazga popped the inflatable, much to the dismay of the home crowd - who are now roundly booing him every time he touches the ball.

Reading get an early corner, which Boro clear.

Meanwhile, the crowd is transfixed by an inflatable T-Rex which is loose in the air and being blown around the stadium. A big cheer goes up when a fan catches it.

Not what we thought we'd be writing today, but here we are.

We're off at the Riverside!

Let's secure survival today... URZ!

Reading fans are making themselves heard before kick-off, one dressed as a hot dog, another dressed as a banana, plenty of inflatables being knocked around the terraces too.

Around 400 or so have made the longest journey of the season, and we thoroughly appreciate the support!

The players are in after their warm-up, inflatables are going up in the Reading end, kick-off is just minutes away!

Former Boro loanee, Lewis Baker starts against his former employers this afternoon.

The Royals have made four changes from Monday's draw at home to West Brom.

José has surveyed the scene at the Riverside ahead of today's game, here's what he said in Thursday's press call:

"We are not in a safe position, we must make the best we can to travel from Middlesbrough with our target achieved.

"We must play the best we can, we must give the maximum inside us because I really believe in Saturday's game that we'll get in a safe position.

"The experience I have in football tells me it's better to celebrate when we really achieve what we want - in football, anything can happen. Afterwards, we can celebrate.

"Now we have Middlesbrough on Saturday, it'll be a tough game against a team that is fighting for the play-offs. They're a team that is extremely well-organised defensively, they're very strong."

John Brooks is on the whistle this afternoon at the Riverside.

The match official has averaged 3.9 cautions in his matches to date this campaign, while also showing the red card on five occasions.

Mr Brooks will be joined on the touchlines by Mark Dwyer and James Mainwaring, with Graham Salisbury in reserve as fourth official.

Sam's back in the starting line-up, Saeid is on the bench, six Academy players in the matchday squad...
