Reading FC Women striker Lauren Bruton has penned a new two-year deal with Reading FC Women, keeping her in Kelly Chambers' side until 2021.
The 26-year-old first signed for the Royals from Arsenal in September 2013 and since then has reached the milestone of 100 appearances for Reading back in October 2018.
Speaking on her motivations to stay at the club, Bruton said: “I love it here; I’ve been here for five years now so it was an easy decision to make. When Kelly asked me, I jumped at the chance and I didn’t even need to think about it.”
When asked what attracted her to Reading back in 2013, Bruton explained: “The club was going in the right direction but Kelly really sold it for me. She has been the mastermind behind it for so many years.
"As you can see from 2013 to where we are now the club has moved so far ahead and I personally believe in the next two years, the club can go even further and that’s the reason why I signed."
Alongside her domestic achievements, Bruton received her first senior England call up by Phil Neville in June 2018, as a replacement for the injured Jordan Nobbs and Isobel Christiansen. Despite not getting minutes in the 3-1 win over Russia, later in the year Bruton made her full international debut in a 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying match against Kazakhstan on 4th September 2018.
A more recent achievement for Bruton and the Royals was beating Manchester United 3-2 in the quarter final of the SSE Women’s FA Cup.
“That was a bit of a rollercoaster; we didn’t make it easy for ourselves but I’m sure the fans absolutely loved it, not so much when you are playing. Something we looked towards at the start of the season was to get to a final whether it be Conti Cup or FA Cup, were on target at the minute and hopefully we can get there."
The Semi Final of the SSE Women’s FA Cup will take place at Adams Park on Sunday 14th April 12.30pm kick off. Tickets are from £3 and can be purchased here by clicking here.
