In the most dramatic of circumstances, Reading sealed a more than deserved point against league-leading Norwich City on Wednesday evening thanks to an inspired finish from Andy Rinomhota in the 97th minute.
It was a situation that could raise any football fan off their seat, and whilst José Gomes thoroughly made the most of the moment – very quickly, his attention turned to the task at hand.
Five games to go. Five games left to fight.
And the Reading boss knows this better than anyone, as was reflected less than 10 minutes after the final whistle in his Norwich City post-match interview.
“There is no time at all to rest,” Gomes explained.
“We have three and half hours to return back to Reading and then straight back in on Thursday to train, recover and prepare for the next game.”
Next up for the Royals, it’s 14th placed Brentford at Madejski Stadium on Saturday 13th April and whilst Gomes is well-aware of the Bees’ threat – he is confident that his side can more than match the West-London outfit.
Gomes went on to say: “Brentford play very, very well.
“On their day, they are one of the best teams in division and they play very good football.
“They play a passing game with a lot of possession and have a very dangerous attacking dynamic.
“Now we will travel. Then we will get back, study the opposition and prepare for another big game on Saturday at the Madejski.”
