While their chances of the league title ebbed away at the final hurdle, Reading's Under-23s still have a chance of promotion to Premier League 2, Division One.
Scott Marshall's side will be welcoming their Newcastle United counterparts to Madejski Stadium for the Play-Off Semi-Final on Friday 3rd May, 7pm kick-off.
It's a one-legged affair in the Premier League 2 Play-Offs, so the finalists will be decided on the night at the home of the Royals.
Marshall's men have enjoyed a superb season that has seen them into the Final of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup, the semis of the Premier League International Cup and a third-placed finish in the league.
They'll have the chance to reach the Play-Off Final against a Magpies side that beat the young Royals 2-0 the last time they met - although our youngsters came away with a 4-2 win in the North East in the reverse fixture.
In the end, only goal difference separated the two sides in the league standings - so it's going to be an extremely tight encounter on Friday night at Madejski Stadium.
After a 4-3 defeat to Aston Villa at the same stage last season, Marshall and his squad will be determined to take another step forward this time around as they battle for promotion.
We'll be opening our doors for supporters to come and back the next generation of Royals on Friday, with free entry on Gate 4 at Madejski Stadium on the night, with free car parking at the ground as well.
We hope to see as many of you here as possible for a crucial match in our U23s' season, and we wish our young Royals the best of luck in their Semi-Final.
