While the first team have almost secured survival in the Championship, our Under-23s are chasing a league title - which would earn them automatic promotion to the Premier League 2, Division One.
And the standings couldn't be tighter at this stage. The Royals, Wolves and Southampton are all locked together on 40 points heading into the final round of fixtures.
Goal difference could be crucial, too, with Wolves holding the cards at the top of the table. Reading sit one goal ahead of the Saints in that department, so it will all go down to the wire.
Stoke City are the opponents for Reading on Friday night at Leek Town (7pm kick-off), as the Premier League 2 season rounds off. Southampton have the ability to see how Friday's matches unfold, with their final clash against Sunderland not taking place until Monday evening. Wolves, however, face a Manchester United side that put five goals past fourth-placed Newcastle in their last outing.
Scott Marshall's side have had a fantastic season on all fronts, with the final of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup to come in the next fortnight, alongside a run to the semi-final of the Premier League International Cup.
Regardless of the outcome in the final league matches, the Royals will still have the chance to go up through the play-offs - having gone out to a 4-3 thriller against Aston Villa in last season's semi-final.
Only the league winners go up automatically, with 2nd-5th fighting it out for the other promotion place in the Premier League 2.
Make sure you follow @RFCAcademy on Twitter on Friday to keep up with all the action as it happens, on what is sure to be a dramatic evening of Academy football.
