Following the Royals' progress in the Carabao Cup in midweek, the team are back at home this weekend as Neil Warnock's Cardiff City are in town.
Reading vs Cardiff City
Sunday 18th August 2019, 12noon
Sky Bet Championship
The unrelenting nature of the football season will get in full swing from Sunday, as Reading start a run of five matches in 14 days when they take on Cardiff City at Madejski Stadium.
José Gomes and his squad will be looking to get off the mark in the Sky Bet Championship this weekend, after defeats in their opening two league encounters.
The Bluebirds haven't had the start of the season they were expecting either, though, after a shock opening day 3-2 defeat away at Wigan Athletic saw Neil Warnock's side start the season on the wrong note.
They atoned for that defeat last time out, however, as a 96th-minute winner from Isaac Vassell put Cardiff on the board, earning a 2-1 win over newly-promoted Luton Town at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Gomes and his Royals will hope to take momentum gained from a penalty shootout win in the Carabao Cup in midweek into Sunday's encounter, with several new signings in line to potentially make their home debuts for the club.
There will be a couple of familiar faces in the Bluebirds' travelling squad, as Sean Morrison and Leandro Bacuna could be in the line-up to face their former side.
For the Royals, after being absent in midweek in the Carabao Cup, Andy Yiadom, Lucas João and João Virgínia will look to make their way back into the squad for the weekend's game.
