Ahead of the game | Charlton coming to town

A look ahead at the Royals' final match before the first international break of the season

30 August 2019

After clocking up some hefty mileage in the last 10 days, it's back to home comforts for the Royals to round off a busy August...

Reading vs Charlton Athletic
Saturday 31st August, 3pm

Madejski Stadium
Sky Bet Championship

Lee Bowyer's high-flying Charlton Athletic side will be coming to Madejski Stadium at the weekend, having settled straight back into the rigours of the Sky Bet Championship after three seasons in League One.

Bowyer's men came back to the second tier via a Play-Off victory over Sunderland at Wembley back in May, and despite speculation surrounding his future at the club over the summer, Bowyer has led the Addicks to an unbeaten start in their first five matches.

Charlton sit in 3rd place in the early stages of the Championship, having earned impressive victories over Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City and Brentford thus far.

For the Royals, José Gomes is likely to revert to the players who have featured in the league up to this point, having made 11 changes for their Carabao Cup victory over Plymouth Argyle in midweek.

Josh Barrett and Yakou Méïté in particular will be pushing for a start at Madejski Stadium at the weekend, having both scored a brace against the League Two outfit in midweek.

Reading will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to six matches in all competitions this weekend, and take three vital points into the international break.
