243 miles to the Hawthorns and back. 413 miles to the John Smith's Stadium and back. A 397-mile round trip to Home Park on Tuesday night now. And the Royals boss has to make sure he allows some of his players some rest.
"We trained in 18 or 19 degree heat during the week and then at Huddersfield on Saturday it was 32 degrees for the game. So my players are tired," José Gomes said.
"It's a long, long war and now it is time to rest. Time for me to try to think and try to find the best options for the Plymouth game. Because the truth is my players are tired.
"It’s another long away trip and we will only have time to watch our game back together and then watch one of Plymouth’s games. And then we will need to make a decision about what team to pick.
"It’s a nice part of the world and when I have time I will go to visit the beach. But we get back home, train, then we have the match, then we are back in training again ahead of next weekend – so no time to make these trips yet.
"Of course we want to win and go further in the competition. But I have to look at the bigger scale and what is more important to us.
"Maybe I need to rest more players because they are tired after the last week of football. Or maybe I take some risks and play with some of them. We will see."
