The Royals’ win in Plymouth on Tuesday evening means that we’ll be in the draw for the Third Round of the Carabao Cup – and some details have now been confirmed.
The draw is set to take on Wednesday evening, following the conclusion of the Sky Sports televised fixture between Lincoln City and Everton at Sincil Bank.
A young-look Royals squad rose to the challenge to defeat League Two high-flyers Plymouth Argyle at Home Park – Josh Barrett’s first two senior goals, and a late double by Yakou Méïté, earned the Royals passage to the third stage.
And this is where it really starts gets interesting. The 25 winners from Round Two – Reading included – are in the hat for the next stage, as are the seven Premier League sides which are playing in Europe this season.
There will definitely be at least three fourth-tier sides in the draw – Crawley Town and Colchester United upset Premier League outfits Norwich City and Crystal Palace respectively – while Grimsby Town and Macclesfield Town will contest one of the fixtures; their game on Tuesday was called off at half-time due to the inclement weather.
A place in the final 16 will be at stake – so keep your eyes peeled on Wednesday evening to see who we will face, and where.
Ties are all due to take place on the week commencing Monday 23rd September.
Reading have been confirmed as ball number 8 for Wednesday night's draw.
