"Hopefully our football will come out on top at West Brom"

John Swift previews midweek Hawthorns test

20 August 2019

John Swift has urged the Royals replicate their performance from the weekend against Cardiff City, as they get set to face West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday evening.

Swift scored Reading's third on the day at Madejski Stadium, and arrowed in the assist for George Pușcaș to bundle in from close range, in a dominant performance from the Royals.

West Brom will be another tough test for Reading, however, and also go into their midweek clash after a win - a brace from substitute, Grady Diangana handing the Baggies a 2-1 win over Luton Town on Saturday.

Former Croatia and West Ham manager, Slaven Bilić has taken charge of the Baggies for the season ahead, and they have gone unbeaten in their first three matches of the Sky Bet Championship season.

"It'll be a really tough game," Swift said. "We went there last year and had a really good performance in the first half, but we let it slip in the second half.

"Hopefully we can go there and put two good halves of football together like we did against Cardiff, and get the three points.

"We'll adapt to how we want to play. We'll watch their clips, we know who their good players are. We'll try and stop them from doing what they do best and, hopefully, our football comes out on top.

"We did that against Cardiff, we adapted to the way Cardiff wanted to play. We battled, then when the ball was on the floor, we played well. We got our chances and took them in the end.

"Every player in the squad wants a good run. Every fan in the stadium, the staff, the manager, we all want a good run.

"We all want to win every single game. It was a great atmosphere on Sunday, everybody knows that. It was good to come in at the end with the fans clapping and everyone being happy."
