“When you have a team like Reading interested in you, of course you have to be happy," smiles Lucas João after putting pen to paper on a four-year deal to become a Royal, joining from Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee.
Just days after scoring against Reading, João, 25, will don the blue and white hoops for the first time as he becomes eligible to make his Royals debut at the weekend against Hull City.
"I am happy to be here and join the Royals, and I hope I can help the team, which is the most important thing.
“Just along the pre-season, I heard some rumours but not confirmed. As soon as they made the first offer I was interested to come here and help the team, as it’s a very good club.
“As a player, I work hard for the team and help my teammates and the club. I can do everything for the club. As a player, I like to play football and score goals. That’s part of my job.
“Looking from the outside, the players have quality and work well as a team and we can do something good with the coach, and hope we get something good.
“I hope fans will keep coming, more and more will join, because we can achieve good things.
"It’s good when a team has good support and I hope this season they come to help us, and we will do our best.
“We will be taking things game by game, but of course we want to do our best and I hope at the end we can get that promotion and celebrate. But the most important thing is taking it game by game."
