Méïté was speaking at a partnership launch event, with a Royal presence in the town centre as replica kit and merchandise will now be sold at John Lewis in town.
A bumper turnout of Reading supporters made their way into the town centre to get their memorabilia signed by a collection of Reading players, and pick up their new replica shirts for the season ahead.
“I was very surprised because they were a lot of fans here today, and we enjoy seeing the fans and signing their shirts, so it was a really good day for us," Méïté said.
“I think it is very good for us, as we get to see some old fans and some young fans and how important for them it is to see us and to support us. So, it’s really good for everyone and you can see we are in a good way because of fans coming here today and to all our games."
Moving on to the weekend, the Royals will be hoping to make it a sixth game unbeaten in all competitions, taking on a Charlton side that have started life back in the Championship in good form.
With the backing of a vocal Reading support behind them, Méïté hopes the Royals can round off a busy August schedule with a win to take them into the international break.
“This game will be very important for us; at the moment we are doing well. But it’s not finished, so we have to stay focused, we’ve got a lot of games to play. The game is also important because it’s just before the international break, so it will be good to win just before the break.
“We try to prepare together, but it’s difficult because some of us played against Huddersfield, and some of us in the Cup game, but the coach is managing it. Most importantly everyone has to be ready for this game.
“When I score, I like to celebrate, so was a very good feeling to celebrate with the fans. I had a bad week last week but now I am back, and I am happy to be enjoying myself with the fans."
