Reading FC Women are very happy to welcome Norwegian international Amalie Eikeland to the club, who joins on a two-year deal from IL Sandviken.
Eikeland joins the Royals during the mid-season of Sandviken’s campaign in the Toppserien – the top flight in her native Norway. As recently as last Sunday, she played her final fixture for the side as they rose to third in the division.
Manager Kelly Chambers said, “I’m excited to finally bring Amalie to Reading. It is a signing that has taken a while due to the World Cup, but she was one I was prepared to wait for. She is a very exciting and talented player who definitely strengthens our attacking threat.
“She is a player that is hungry to learn and her attributes, ability and personality will fit in to the squad very comfortably.”
She had linked up with Sandviken at the start of the 2019 campaign, joining the club from Arna-Bjørnar where she began her professional career and played for over seven years.
Eikeland has been capped seven times for the Norway women’s national team, including travelling with the side to the World Cup in June. Her most recent appearance to date came against England in the quarter-final – on the opposition side of the teamsheet to new Reading teammate Jade Moore, as the Lionesses progressed.
The winger is set to be part of the pre-season travelling party which travel out to Spain; her first competitive Reading fixture could come against Liverpool when the 2019-20 Women’s Super League kicks off on Sunday 8th September.
