Southwood seals loan switch to Scotland

Young keeper agrees to spend first half of the 2019-20 season at Hamilton Academical

1 August 2019

Reading Football Club can announce that 21-year-old goalkeeper Luke Southwood has completed the paperwork on a half-season-long loan move to Scottish Premiership side Hamilton Academical.

A product of our Academy, Southwood has spent loan spells at Bath City in 2017-18 and then with Eastleigh in the National League last season.

An unused member of England’s Under-20 World Cup-winning squad in South Korea, Southwood helped the Spitfires reach the National League play-offs last season, losing out to eventual winners Salford in a semi-final penalty shootout.

Now, Luke will swap the south coast for South Lanarkshire and spend the first half of the 2019-20 campaign with the Accies.

Brian Rice’s side narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing 10th in the top flight north of the border last season.

Southwood’s loan contract will now run until Sunday 5th January 2020 and we would like to wish Luke the very best of luck at New Douglas Park.
