Hönnudóttir signs for former club

Icelandic international returns to homeland side Breiðablik

9 December 2019

Reading FC Women would like to wish Rakel Hönnudóttir all the best as she leaves the club to sign for her former team Breiðablik in Iceland.

The forward, who has over 100 international caps for her native Iceland, signed for the Royals from Swedish side IF Limhamn Bunkeflo 07 back in January of this year.

Hönnudóttir re-joins her former side Breiðablik whom she played for between 2012 and 2017, scoring 46 goals in 103 appearances before making the switch to Sweden.

Hönnudóttir said “I would just like to thank everyone for the opportunity that I was given, and thanks to the girls for welcoming me to the club with open arms”.

In her 11 months with Kelly Chambers’ Royals, Hönnudóttir played 13 times, scoring 3 goals. Most recently, after a short injury, Hönnudóttir made an appearance for the Reading FC Women Academy, scoring 4 goals in the first half.

We wish Rakel luck in the future.
