Ahead of the game | On the way to the Owls

All you need to know as Reading head to Hillsborough this weekend

8 February 2019

It's the first of two consecutive weekends spent in Sheffield for the Royals, with a new man at the helm at Hillsborough this weekend.

Steve Bruce will be taking charge of his first home match as the new Sheffield Wednesday manager this weekend, after overseeing a last-gasp 1-0 victory over bottom side, Ipswich Town, away from home last time out.

The Owls have had an indifferent season so far, struggling to keep pace with the frontrunners but seemingly well clear of any relegation threat.

A run of one win in 10 matches cost Jos Luhukay his job at Hillsborough last month, but the Owls' form has picked up of late. A five-game unbeaten run over the festive period has been supplemented with back-to-back Championship wins heading into this weekend.

As for the Royals, José Gomes and his side are aiming to keep their points tally ticking over after picking up a pair of draws in their last two Championship clashes - with a hard-earned clean sheet at home to Aston Villa last Saturday.

In terms of team news, Reading boss Gomes has already confirmed the absence of Nélson Oliveira after his gruesome injury last weekend, with Garath McCleary and Ovie Ejaria also doubtful after a bout of illness this week.

Tickets will be available on the day with no increase on advance prices, from a cash only turnstile at Hillsborough - please note that no tickets in the Under-5 price bracket will be available on the day.
