Royals return home in midweek for Blackburn test

12 February 2019

After a long away trip at the weekend, Reading return to RG2 for another tough Championship test - this time it's Blackburn Rovers who provide the opposition.

After three consecutive draws and two clean sheets on the trot for José Gomes and his Reading side, the manager has been unequivocal in his desire for all three points when Blackburn Rovers visit Madejski Stadium on Wednesday night.

Rovers have settled straight back into the second tier after their promotion from League One last season, sitting comfortably in mid-table and well clear of any relegation danger - although a late push for the top six may well be a tough ask at this stage.

Tony Mowbray's men come into this match off the back of a narrow defeat at home to Play-Off chasing Bristol City - with an Eros Pisano strike 10 minutes from time condemning Rovers to a second consecutive defeat.

As for the Royals, a hard-fought goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend means they are one point from climbing out of the Championship's bottom three.

What's on

Before kick-off on Wednesday night, a minute's applause will take place to honour the life of former England goalkeeper, Gordon Banks, who sadly passed away on Tuesday at the age of 81.

We would like to invite supporters to head to their seats early as Reading FC pays tribute to one of the greats of English football.

Reading FC Women return to Madejski Stadium next week as they get ready to face West Ham United in the Women's Super League - and some of the stars of our squad will be in the Megastore for a signing session on Wednesday evening.

Head down to the Megastore for 7pm to be able to meet the Royals, who are gearing up for a Fifth Round tie in the FA Cup this weekend - at home to Birmingham City.

The Fan Zone is an ideal place to take in the pre-match atmosphere at Madejski Stadium. Thanks to our Official Pouring Rights Partner, Heineken, fans can pick up a beverage at the new location, which is named after the former Elm Park hotspot, with the area around the bar decked out in images of former and current Royals stars.

Also in the Fan Zone is Bill's Coffee - look out for the trailer and grab a bean-to-cup coffee to warm you up before the action gets going inside the ground.

Heineken will be joined at the Fan Zone by West Berkshire Brewery, our local ale partner, who will be serving their famous “Good Old Boy” once again at Madejski Stadium.

Around the corner at the Fun Zone, Under-23 stars, Cameron Green and Jordan Holsgrove - son of former Royal, Paul - will be in attendance on The Royal Bus from 7-7.30pm.
