Jeremy Simpson will be the man in the middle this weekend for our all-important Championship clash with Rotherham United.
It will be the second time this season that the Lancashire-based referee has been to Madejski Stadium. The first, back in September, saw the Royals run out comfortable 3-0 winners against Hull City; the only downside of the afternoon being a red card shown to John O’Shea for bringing down Fraizer Campbell.
Rotherham, on the other hand, haven’t had a whole lot of luck when Mr Simpson has been on the whistle. When they hosted Hull back in August they were defeated 3-2, and that was followed up by a 1-1 draw in Preston in October and a 2-1 defeat at Bolton on Boxing Day.
In his 30 games to date in 2018-19, he has reached for his yellow card on 118 occasions, while O’Shea’s dismissal was one of five times he has brandished a red. He also dismissed a Royal last season, too – Tyler Blackett was shown the red away at Sheffield Wednesday towards the end of the season.
Nigel Lugg and Adam Matthews will run the lines as assistant referees, while Peter Wright is due to be fourth official.
