Leicestershire-based official John Brooks will be the man in the middle when we visit Sheffield Wednesday this weekend – the first Royals fixture he’ll have looked after this season.

The Owls have had one match under his watch so far in 2018-19 – that was back in October, when they were sounded defeated 3-0 at the hands of home side Queens Park Rangers.
He took charge of two Reading fixtures last season, each of which were disappointing days for us. The first was our 500th Madejski Stadium match, which ended in a 2-1 win for visiting Burton Albion, and the second was soon after when we were eliminated from the FA Cup – that so happened to come at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
Those are the only two first-team Royals games that Mr Brooks has taken charge of. Other than that, he looked after a Checkatrade Trophy game when our U21 representative side were defeated in Yeovil, with Sandro Wieser being shown a red card.
So far this season, he has issued 97 yellow cards and five reds in his 25 games to date.
Assistant referees at Hillsborough will be Akil Howson and Sam Lewis, and Robert Lewis the fourth official.
