Over the next few days, plans will be formulated, tactics decided, physical fitness assessed - all in preparation for a big game against Rotherham United next weekend.
But the preparation began at 5pm on Saturday in the dressing room at Bramall Lane.
A defeat to Sheffield United consigned to the history books - already José Gomes is willing his team to show their mental strength to get ready for arguably their biggest game of the campaign.
At present, both the Royals and the Millers are level on points in the Sky Bet Championship table – with Reading ahead on goal difference, just on the right side of the dotted line. The manager was unequivocal about how important the next game is.
“Now we need to look to the future – recover, and prepare for the next match,” Gomes explained.
“We have to look at our mistakes, the ways that we can improve, the things that we can do in the week to be better in the next game.
“The next game will be the most important game of the season. That’s it.
“Our preparation for the game against Rotherham started in the dressing room after the game. Our players have a responsibility, and they feel it. They are ready to take the challenge. We will show that we are ready.
“This week, I will demand from them what they have already shown they can do. Nothing more than that – just to show what they can do, and what they have already done in previous games. That is what I demand.”
