U23s secure Semi-Final spot

Young Royals advance to semi-final stage of the Berks & Bucks FA Cup...

14 February 2019

Reading FC’s Under-23s successfully booked their place in the semi-finals of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup on Tuesday evening.

Fighting back from 1-0 down, the Royals came from behind to defeat Flackwell Heath 2-1, courtesy of a brace by Khalid Simmo.

A place in the semi-final of the competition now awaits Scott Marshall’s young Royals, with them set to take on either Maidenhead United, Slough Town or Marlow.

Looking back at the game, it was one that took Reading a little time to grow in to.

A difficult pitch made it hard for the Royals to fully get going in the early stages, and the hosts took full advantage of this a minute before half time through Flackwell forward Leius Sinclair.

The game underwent a length delay before the break, as Jack Nolan received assistance; he dislocated a kneecap and was unable to continue.

After the break, though, it was a different story and the Under-23s reacted superbly.

Just after the hour mark, Simmo struck and equaliser to fire his side back into the game. This was followed up just over ten minutes later to complete the comeback.

Towards the final stages of the game, the visitors piled on the pressure and shifted to a direct style. However, the young Royals rose to the battle and successfully saw the victory over the line.

Full details of semi-final fixture in the Berks & Bucks Cup with be finalised in due course and announced via club channels.
