Reading Football Club can confirm that defender Tiago Ilori has today completed a permanent move back to Portugal to sign for Sporting Lisbon for an undisclosed fee.
London-born Ilori grew up in the Algarve and came through Sporting’s youth ranks before making his professional debut at Estádio José Alvalade back in November 2011.
He left Lisbon for Liverpool in 2013 but without breaking into the first team at Anfield, and following loan stints in both Spain and France, Tiago left Merseyside in search of regular first team football as a Royal two years ago.
He overcame a nasty injury suffered on Madejski Stadium debut to make 4(+4) appearances towards the end of our 2016-17 Championship campaign and Ilori has since totted up a total of 57(+7) appearances for the club, scoring once.
Now the former Portuguese youth international has agreed to a permanent switch back to Sporting, who currently sit just three points behind second-placed Benfica in the Primeira Liga and are looking forward to a Europa League last sixteen clash with Villarreal in two weeks’ time.
Everyone at Reading Football Club would like to thank Tiago for his commitment to our club during the last two years and wish him the very best of luck in his future career.
