Lewis Baker joined the Royals on loan on Wednesday, linking up from Chelsea on a loan spell until the end of the campaign.
In his first interview, he outlines his hopes of getting into the thick of the action as soon as possible and contributing to some victories in a Reading shirt.
“It’s a new chapter in my career; I’m excited for the challenge ahead and I can’t wait to get started,” Baker said.
“I’m looking forward to getting ready for the weekend, meeting all the boys, knuckling down and hopefully start climbing the table. First thing, I’ll train and meet the lads and then see how the next few days go.
“I’ve known John Swift for a long time now – we’ve always played well together growing up, and hopefully that continues here!
“There have been a few times that Reading have called, but I think this is the right time for me – I want to get as much game-time as possible, which is what I need at the moment. Anyone who knows me personally knows how much I like football and how much I want to play.
“I want to help the club out in the situation that they’re in at the moment, and start climbing the table.”
He also outlined his conversations with manager José Gomes, as he becomes the new boss’s second signing.
“I had some words with the manager when I met him. He told me his ideas, how he sees me, and it sounded like a good philosophy that he’s trying to deliver.
“If we keep sticking to the style that the manager is bringing in, it will definitely bring in points for us.”
Baker could be in action as early as this weekend when we played Nottingham Forest – click the banner below for ticket information.
