The Northumberland-based official will be taking charge of his first Royals match of the season, having previously refereed Reading's 3-1 victory at Aston Villa in April 2017, with a 2-2 draw against Leeds United on show in his last visit to Madejski Stadium last March.
Mr Duncan is in his seventh season as an EFL referee, and has already been to the University of Bolton Stadium this term - as the Trotters beat Derby County 1-0 back in September.
He has given out 72 yellow cards in his 21 matches in charge in the EFL and Carabao Cup this season, averaging around 3.5 cautions per match.
Mr Duncan will be assisted by Philip Dermott and Matthew McGrath on Tuesday night, with Peter Bankes on hand as fourth official.
