“Our fans have suffered, but they come – they love this club”

The manager on the role of our fans

30 January 2019

“Our supporters have been on the journey from the beginning...and they have suffered for a long period of time…” That’s how José Gomes began as he reflected on the continued role of the Royals faithful – and we’re set to welcome our largest crowd of the season when Aston Villa come to Madejski Stadium this weekend.

“But even though they have suffered, we come to the stadium and our fans are here in their thousands. That means that they really love the club. They want to help their club to stay in this competition and to prepare to fight next season with a higher challenge.

“They are helping, because they are coming. We saw more than 3,000 people travel all the way to Manchester to support us at Old Trafford.

“We are counting on the support of our fans. I am sure that they will go on helping our players to be better in their games.

“I never feel tired of saying this about our fans – they are really amazing in the way that they support our team. They travel this distance, they will have been caught in snow during the trip to Bolton, they show up in the cold weather. And they stay until the end to support our players.

“They really deserve the three points and to see their club in a position that they deserve. So hopefully against Aston Villa we will give a good answer.”
