Reading Football Club can announce that 21-year-old goalkeeper Lewis Ward has returned from his loan spell at Northampton Town to join fellow League Two side Forest Green Rovers until the end of the 2018-19 campaign.
Academy product Ward, who put pen to paper on a new two-year Royals contract in the summer, completed the paperwork on his new loan switch this morning and swaps a stay at 16th-placed Town for a second half of the season spell with seventh-placed Rovers.
A local Reading lad, Lewis came through our Academy ranks here in RG2 – winning the Premier League Cup as a Royal. And, having impressed during a spell on loan at Aldershot at the end of last season, he was included in our first team’s pre-season training camp in Austria in the summer.
Previously, the 6’5” stopper has enjoyed loan stints with Sutton United, Whitehawk, Margate, Hungerford Town and Icelandic top tier side Fylkir and now he moves up the League Two table to challenge for promotion with Mark Cooper’s men.
Forest Green host Bury on Saturday and Ward could make his debut for the Gloucestershire outfit against the Shakers at the weekend.
Everyone at Reading Football Club would like to wish Lewis the very best of luck during his new loan spell as a Rover.
