Centre-half Matt Miazga completed his first 45 minutes at Madejski Stadium since his return on Sunday – an entertaining encounter against his parent club as preparations for the season’s start came to a head.
An enjoyable game to watch and to be a part of – next time out, the result will count for three points won or lost. Sheffield Wednesday visit in our curtain-raiser on Saturday.
“I thought it was a fun, entertaining game against Chelsea,” Miazga said. “We got out of it what we planned to – a good 45 minutes for each team in the first and second half.
“It was a high-scoring game – we know that we can score goals against good opposition. Now it’s about tightening up defensively and being organised, and going forward into the start of the season.
“There are things to learn and to build on, but there were some good things as well. We scored some good goals. We conceded a few too so we need to learn from that and prepare this week for the season’s opener against Sheffield Wednesday.
“I’m happy to be back, and happy to be playing. Now there’s a week of training before the fun starts! We’re excited for the opener and looking forward to it.
“It’s good to start at the Madejski. We had great support against Chelsea – the stadium was buzzing and it was nice to feel that support again. Hopefully that will continue into the start of the season. They give us a real boost, that bit of extra energy, so hopefully we can get three points on Saturday.”
It’s a 3pm kick-off on Saturday for Reading vs Sheffield Wednesday at Madejski Stadium. For full information about tickets – including prices and how to buy – head here.
