The Royals will return from a fixture-filled pre-season training camp in Spain and play Peterborough United on Wednesday 24th July, kick-off 4pm.
Aware that our supporters are naturally keen to see our first team in pre-season action, the club have opted to stage this match at Madejski Stadium and open up the stands to supporters, free of charge.
The game against Darren Ferguson’s League One side will be our eighth of the summer and be a precursor to a mouth-watering friendly against Europa League champions Chelsea - and then our Championship curtain-raiser against Sheffield Wednesday (H) on Saturday 3rd August, 3pm.
Posh finished their 2018-19 season just one place shy of the play-off spots, winning 20 of their 46 games in League One but ending the campaign a point behind sixth-placed Doncaster Rovers.
United’s last visit to Madejski Stadium came in August 2012 when five goals were scored in 26 first half minutes during an eventful League Cup clash; goals from Pavel Pogrebnyak, Chris Gunter and a Nat Knight-Percival own goal were enough to earn the Royals a 3-2 home win that night.
The turnstiles for this friendly will open to all supporters at 2.30pm and we plan to operate unreserved seating in the East Stand. Parking will also be free and available on a first come, first served basis on the afternoon.
