A late goal from Azeez ensured La Liga side, Granada earned a 1-0 win over the Royals in the final match of their Spanish training camp.
An experienced side lined up for Reading, with the inclusion of youngster, Jordan Holsgrove - who had already played a second-half cameo in the morning's friendly.
The Royals took to the pitch against the newly-promoted La Liga side in the final match of their pre-season training camp in Spain, that has seen them take in six friendlies over the course of the last fortnight.
And José Gomes’ side started on the front foot, dominating possession and finding openings in the Granada defence – without threatening on goal too often early on.
But it was the Spanish side who would have the first chance, a deep cross from the left reached the head of Ramos in the area, who had João Virgínia at full stretch, with the ball bouncing just wide of his right-hand post.
Granada played a long ball from the back shortly afterwards, nodded on in midfield before being threaded through to Isma Ruiz bearing down on goal, who drew a smart low save from Virgínia to his left.
The La Liga outfit kept up the intensity, with a corner swung in from the left headed narrowly over the bar by Neyder.
Play continued without much consequence until the half-hour mark, where the players recuperated with a water break during a warm, muggy evening in Marbella.
Just before the interval, the ball broke from a Reading corner. Andy Yiadom’s low strike was deflected into the path of Liam Moore, who finished with his left foot, but the flag had already gone up for offside.
It was a nip-and-tuck half between two evenly-matched teams in Marbella, as the Royals went in goalless at the break.
Half time | Reading 0-0 Granada
As has been the case in almost all of Reading’s friendlies in Spain, their opponents made a raft of changes at the break as the teams returned to the pitch, while Mo Barrow was introduced in place of Yakou Méïté.
The teams jostled again for possession early in the second period, with neither gaining real superiority in the match as the sun began to set.
Virgínia was called upon again as the Royals couldn’t quite clear their lines in defence, with substitute Antonio Aranda able to turn and shoot – with the young Portuguese goalkeeper making a routine stop.
Midway through the second half, Andy Rinomhota drew a foul on the edge of the box as John Swift loomed over the free kick. After being made to retake it, his effort went straight at goalkeeper Rui Silva.
It was a match where both teams struggled to break the other down, although Granada were able to bring on former Tottenham and Valencia striker, Roberto Soldado to try and break the deadlock.
The first goal of the game came from a different source, however. Granada worked a neat passing move across the box, and Soldado laid off for Azeez to fire into the top corner past Virgínia.
Swift broke into the Granada box with five minutes to go – he looked to have been hauled down in the box, but the referee waved the penalty appeals away.
It was another valuable exercise for the Royals, that unfortunately ended in defeat as Reading rounded off their Spanish training camp.
