Reading FC Women have today completed the signing of centre-half Kristine Bjørdal Leine, who makes the move to Berkshire from her homeland side Røa IL.
Defender Leine, 22, becomes the first arrival of the summer for Reading FC Women ahead of their return to pre-season training.
Manager Kelly Chambers said: “Kristine is a player that I have been watching for some time. She is a fantastic player and has excellent all-round attributes of an excellent centre back.
“Kristine is my first signing of the season, and one that is going to really strengthen my squad. She has a great character and work ethic and will fit in well with the current group that I have. I look forward to working with her.”
Despite her tender years, Leine already has plenty of experience under her belt. Domestically, she broke into the Røa side as a teenager in 2015, helping her club to a third-placed finish in the Toppserien. The following season, she was part of a squad which finished runners-up in the Norwegian Women’s Cup.
And at international level, she has five senior caps to date for the Norwegian national team – most recently helping her compatriots to lift the Algarve Cup in March with wins against China, Poland and Denmark.
Making her first foray into football outside of her native country, she will now wear the Royals’ hoops in the upcoming 2019-20 campaign.
Leine added: "I felt an instant connection with Kelly and loved her plans for me and the club. It will be a new challenge for me and I am very much looking forward to it. I believe I will develop a lot as a player and as a person by making this move.
"Reading is a very good team, and I'm looking forward to play football for this amazing team."
