As the season came to a close for our Academy youngsters, our U10 and U11 teams ventured off to Loughborough University to compete in their end-of-season Premier League National Tournaments.
The Nationals are held annually, with every Category 1 Academy and Premier League club in attendance - providing a fantastic opportunity for our young players to test themselves against the best the country has to offer.
Our U10s progressed all the way the final stages of the competition, losing just one game across the two days, narrowly missing out on a semi-final place after getting positive results against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.
Two days later it was our U11s' turn, who put in an equally impressive performance progressing all the way the semi-finals of the Gold Plate competition, where they were narrowly beaten on penalties by Sunderland.
Lead Foundation Phase Coach Jamie Greenwood said: “These annual end of season tournaments provide a great opportunity to reflect on the season's progress, and for the boys to test how far they have come against tough opposition.
"The overnight stay that comes with these tournaments also provides a different social experience for the boys and an opportunity for additional educational experiences, such as video analysis, where we can reflect on the day's games and prepare game plans for the knockout stages."
