Ahead of the game | Latics take trip to RG2

All you need to know ahead of the next vital Championship mat

8 March 2019

It's the third consecutive match for the Royals in which they play a direct competitor in the Championship table, this time it's Wigan who journey down to Madejski Stadium.

Reading vs Wigan Athletic
Saturday 9th March

Madejski Stadium
3pm kick-off
Sky Bet Championship

After a dramatic late victory against Ipswich Town last time out, Reading will be aiming to make it back-to-back wins in the league, with a Wigan Athletic side who went down to a midweek defeat at Derby County.

The Royals currently sit three points behind Paul Cook's side in the Championship table, and a victory would see them leapfrog the visitors in the standings on goal difference.

No extra motivation will be needed, then, for another tough match at Madejski Stadium this weekend. And Reading will be without striker Nélson Oliveira for the weekend, after suffering a 'significant' hamstring injury at Ipswich last weekend. Goalkeeper, Emi Martínez, is also being monitored after sustaining a calf problem at Portman Road a week ago.

The battle to avoid relegation from the second tier is tighter than ever, with four teams separated by just three points either side of the dreaded dotted line.

Reading fans will be coming out in force for their team this weekend, with more than 650 supporters set to make their voices heard from Club 1871 in the South Stand. To find out more about joining them this weekend, click here.

Royals boss, José Gomes has been urging his side to 'keep their feet on the ground' this week in training, keeping emotions in check with 11 games to go in the all-important run-in for the remainder of the season. This one is not to be missed.
