The Surrey-based official will be making his second visit to RG2 this season, also overseeing Reading's 2-1 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday back in September.
Mr Ward last took charge of Leeds back in January, in their 2-1 away loss at Stoke City, sending off centre-back, Pontus Jansson in the process.
Each of the referee's last two matches have seen him brandish the red card twice, sending Bolton down to nine men against Swansea City, before QPR and Stoke lost a man apiece at the weekend.
He has averaged around three yellow cards per match this season, in what is his 12th campaign as a Football League official.
Mr Ward will be assisted on the night by Mark Scholes and Mark Pottage, with James Linington between the benches as fourth official.
