On this whistle this weekend at Madejski Stadium is Hampshire-based referee Andy Davies, who will take charge of our game against Wigan Athletic.
It will be his third trip to RG2 in the current campaign, and his fourth Royals fixture overall this term. And so far, we haven’t had much success under his watch. The home games were a 2-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Watford, and then a 1-0 league defeat against Queens Park Rangers.
And then on Boxing Day, it was a tough day all round when we lost 1-0 in Millwall to an early Jed Wallace free-kick; Tyler Blackett was sent off early and then Leandro Bacuna joined him with an early trip to the dressing room with our second dismissal; we ended with nine men.
Wigan, likewise, haven’t had a lot of luck under Mr Davies this season. Their two games with him as adjudicator have also ended in defeat – a 2-1 loss to Leeds United in November, and then a 3-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest in January.
Assistants for the afternoon will be Daniel Leach and Geoffrey Russell, and the fourth official is scheduled to be Antony Coggins.
