The key dates to keep an eye on in 2019-20

Important dates for the diary next season

Anticipation always builds ahead of a new season, with fans eagerly awaiting the first kick of a ball to signal the start of a brand new campaign ahead.

The first date to put in the diaries for supporters around the country – Thursday 20th June at 9am is Championship fixture release day. All the big rivalries, your favourite away days, everything will be revealed on this day in June.

The Reading first team players will then begin to prepare for the upcoming season as they return to training on Monday 1st July.

The following Saturday, 6th July is when the Royals will face their first friendly opposition of pre-season (opposition TBC) before catching a flight to Estepona, Spain to begin the pre-season tour the following day on Sunday 7th July.

After travelling back to RG2 on Sunday 21st July, Madejski Stadium will open its doors for a home pre-season friendly a week later on Sunday 28th July at 3pm (opposition TBC).

This is when supporters will get the chance to watch José Gomes’ team in action for the first time before the Championship season gets underway on Saturday 3rd August.

All the incomings and outgoings of players will come to a halt on Transfer Deadline Day, which this year will be on Thursday 8th August at 5pm.

Four days later, the First Round of the Carabao Cup will begin the week commencing Monday 12th August, where last season the Royals hosted Birmingham City at home in a 2-0 win.

For any supporters eyeing up the potential for some silverware come the turn of the year, the Carabao Cup Final will take place on Sunday 1st March 2020, with the Championship Play-Off Final being played at Wembley on Monday 25th May 2020.
