Rotherfield United back the boys and raise cash to recover from vandalism in the process

Supportive Schools and Grassroots Ticketing Scheme partners raise £500 whilst watching season finale at the Madejski

13 May 2019

Rotherfield United are one of a number of clubs who have taken a very active part in the club's Schools and Grassroots Ticketing Scheme - an initiative which offers local schools and clubs opportunities to purchase tickets to our home matches at Madejski Stadium at a special discounted rate whilst also raising funds for their own school or club.

Rotherfield United, who are based in Bishopswood Sports Ground, were recently targeted by vandals, who in driving a car across their premises caused approximately £4,000-worth of damage. The pitches were ruined and the goal posts burnt and broken.

The club is run solely by volunteers who organise their own fundraising events and it is used by members every weekend of the year. So, as one of our ticketing initiative partners, the Royals offered a little assistance.

As such special supporters of the scheme throughout this season, we offered the local side a Club Day when we took on Birmingham City on the last day of our 2018-19 season last Sunday. That meant, in recognition of their exceptional support all season and their unfortunate circumstances, we offered a special discounted ticket price for the club and guaranteed that 50% of the sales they generated would be donated straight back to Rotherfield United.

Rotherfield sold an impressive 158 tickets to our season finale, enjoying a fantastic afternoon at the Madejski whilst raising £500 that can be put towards their pitch renovations.

Once the damage had been done, United set up a fundraising site and the figure has built towards the £4,000 mark already - the £500 raised in supporting the Royals will tip them over that 4K barrier. And if any of our supporters would like to donate to the club to help them rebuild, click here to go to their fundraising site

Local grassroots football is important to Reading Football Club and we always look to connect with our community at every opportunity. So we were delighted to lend a helping hand to Rotherfield United - and we hope you had a great day at the Madejski. See you next season!
