Earlier this month, Reading’s Under-18s were drawn at home against Crystal Palace in the Third Round of this season’s FA Youth Cup, and today we can confirm that the date of the fixture has been set for Thursday 12th December (7pm kick-off) at Madejski Stadium.
Both teams enter the competition at this stage – only one can progress through to Round Four.
For all U18 sides, it is the marquee competition to get involved in and to try to make progress into the latter stages.
It is, undeniably, a different kind of occasion. Rather than the lunchtime Saturday kick-offs at a training ground in league fixtures, these games tend to be well-attended, winner-takes-all matches at first-team stadia with some boisterous support and the very best players eligible deployed for the game.
This will be no different. Our youngsters, who are mixing it up in the U18 Premier League South alongside the best young talents at this end of the country, will face a stern test when they host the Eagles next month.
Our Academy has a reputation of producing some exceptional young players; Palace’s can also point to a good track-record, which includes Clinton Morrison, Nathaniel Clyne, Wayne Routledge and Wilfried Zaha amongst their alumni.
Tickets will be priced at £3 Adults and £1 Concessions and all supporters will be able to buy on the evening of the fixture. Parking will be free and unreserved for all fans.
