Reading Football Club are pleased to announce that 17-year-old defender Jeriel Dorsett has put pen to paper on his first professional contract, keeping him in Royals colours until the summer of 2021.
Still in the second year of his scholarship, Dorsett only returned to RG2 late this week following his inclusion in the England Under-18 squad over the last fortnight - making his debut at that level in a 5-2 win over Poland in Opole last Friday evening.
He was an unused substitute in Ian Foster’s side’s second win of the international interval - against Slovakia - before playing the full ninety minutes in a 3-2 win against Austria in Leobersdorf on Wednesday.
Centre-back Dorsett has been an ever-present for our Under-18s so far this season, playing all eight games in advance of last weekend’s visit to Aston Villa.
But the youngster found himself on the scoresheet, as Mikele Leigertwood and Michael Donaldson’s side came from behind to beat Villa 2-1 on Saturday in the U18 Premier League South.
With his future now committed to Reading, Dorsett will now aim to continue to impress in our Under-18s set up and push for minutes at Under-23 level at some stage this season. Congratulations, Jeriel!
