Michael Olise’s eye-catching performances for our Under-23 squad have rewarded him a nomination for Premier League 2 Player of the Month for September.
The 17-year old has appeared for the U23 setup three times in September, grabbing himself a couple of goals and featuring for the majority of games.
Olise appeared for the full 90 minutes in the win against West Brom’s U23s at the start of the month, high spirits producing an impressive second-half comeback from 1-0 down.
The 5-0 thumping of Swansea City U23 included a goal and another full 90 for our nominee. Olise capitalised on some loose passing in the Swansea defence to notch the third goal before half-time.
His last appearance for the U23s in September was drama-fuelled. The Royals U23s just missed out on points at Craven Cottage, but not for trying. Coming back from being 4-1 down at the break, Michael Olise struck a beautiful finish to level the scores at 4-4, switching the ball to his stronger foot and finding the top corner to restore parity – but Fulham grabbed a later winner.
Those performances have not only rewarded Michael a nomination, but also a spot in the first-team setup. Olise featured in the squad for the Royals' games with Swansea City and Fulham, including a sub appearance in the latter.
The eight-man shortlist for the PL2 Player of the Month award is as follows:
- Folarin Balogun | Arsenal
- Antony Evans | Everton
- George Hirst | Leicester City
- James Garner | Manchester United
- Rosaire Longelo | Newcastle United
- Michael Olise | Reading
- Callum Slattery | Southampton
- Anthony Scully | West Ham United
The shortlist was chosen by the Premier League Football Development panel after PL2 club coaches nominated the best performances by opposing players in each league fixture in September. The winner, also chosen by the panel, will be announced on Friday 11th October.
Congratulations on the nomination, Michael!
