Scott Marshall's Reading U23 side will head back to Madejski Stadium for the third time this season, as they get ready to take on Colchester United in their first group game of the 2019-20 Premier League Cup.

The Royals won the inaugural running of the competition back in the 2013-14 season, as well as losing out in the final against Swansea City back in 2016-17, with the 32-team tournament running in a Champions League-style group stage, followed by knockout format.

U23 teams from across the Football League pyramid have entered into the competition, with an Everton side featuring now-Royals loanee, João Virgínia coming out on top against Newcastle United in last season's final.

The visit of the U's on Monday afternoon will be the first of six group matches for the Young Royals, with home and away ties against Charlton Athletic and Swansea still to come, and the top two teams will qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament.

Madejski Stadium will be open for supporters to watch the youngsters take on Colchester, with free entry and free parking available in RG2.

The Fanstore will also be open as you can buy any missing Royals merchandise you're yet to acquire, and refreshments will be available on the West Stand concourse.

We would love to have your support on Monday as our young players get their first cup run of the season started.
