We are pleased to announce that Reading left-back Omar Richards has received a call-up to the England Under-21 squad, with two upcoming fixtures for the Young Lions in the coming days.
England face their Slovenia counterparts at Ljudski vrt on Friday in a friendly fixture, and then it’s back to home soil to meet Austria on Tuesday at Stadium MK in a 2021 European Under-21 Championships qualifier.
Omar was called into Aidy Boothroyd’s U21s for the first time in the September international break and was an unused sub in games in Euro 2021 qualifiers against Turkey and Kosovo. Wins for the Young Lions in both games put them top of the group, alongside an Austria side who also have a perfect record from their opening two matches.
And now our Academy graduate will join up with a young side bursting with talent – Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi and Manchester United man Mason Greenwood just some of the other names in the squad. And now Richards could be in contention to receive his first youth cap over the international weekend.
Our congratulations go to Omar on his well-deserved selection for the Young Lions, and we will be keeping a close eye on his involvement during his time away with England.
