Ahead of the game | Blackburn back in RG2

A look forward to a return to Madejski Stadium

21 September 2019

For the first time in three weeks, we have a home fixture at Madejski Stadium – Blackburn Rovers provide the opposition on Saturday in RG2.

Under the guidance of Tony Mowbray, the Lancashire side have been quietly going about their business. After a 15th place finish last term, following their promotion back to the second tier, they have made a solid start to the new campaign.

Two defeats from their first two looked concerning, but wins since against Middlesbrough, Hull City and Millwall have propelled Rovers into mid-table.

Four clean-sheets from seven Championship outings suggest that the Lancashire side are a tough team to break down, too – so our boys will need to be on their mettle to leave with a victory this weekend.

We go into the game on the back of a defeat at Middlesbrough last time out – not the result we wished for, but a fine performance merited much more. This weekend, we’re hoping for the same kind of display but a better points-haul to show for it.

Pre-match chat

José Gomes: "They have a very good dynamic. Blackburn are playing very well, mixing youth energy with quality experienced players. We just need to keep our focus and do the things we can do properly. I'm sure we'll get good things in Saturday's game.”

Tom McIntyre: “Blackburn will be a direct team in some of the way that they plan, but we don’t need to worry about how they play too much. We will stick to our methods – try to play out from the back with some nice football, and hopefully get some goals this weekend.”
