Team news | Obita starts!

Madejski Stadium welcomes back Jordan after two-year-long injury absence

21 September 2019

José Gomes has handed Jordan Obita a place in his starting eleven, almost exactly two years since the talented full-back last played league football.

It has been a long road to recovery for our Academy product and former Player of the Season, but Madejski Stadium is sure to give Jordan Obita a rapturous reception when he strides out onto the Madejski Stadium turf.

His last league minutes came in a home draw against Hull City on 23rd September 2017, but Obita captained a youthful Royals side to victory in the Carabao Cup at Plymouth last month and is now set to return to Championship action.

In his last Championship start, Obita scored - you have to cast your minds back to a crucial goal that earned us a 1-1 draw at Fulham in the play-off semi-final back in May 2017.

George Pușcaș and Lucas João return to lead the line against Rovers, while Pelé is preferred to Andy Rinomhota in midfield.

Matt Miazga remains sidelined through injury while Danny Loader was absent from training this week with illness. Omar Richards retains his place in the squad as a substitute.

Reading: Rafael, Yiadom, Obita, Morrison, Moore (c), McIntyre, Pelé, Swift, Ejaria, Pușcaș, João.
Subs: Virgínia, Blackett, Richards, Adam, Rinomhota, Méïté, Boyé.

Blackburn Rovers: Walton, Williams, Cunningham, Armstrong, Gallagher, Downing, Dack, Lenihan, Travis, Evans, Bennett (c).
Subs: Leutwiler, Nyambe, Bell, Johnson, Graham, Holtby, Buckley
