Following this morning's Carabao Cup Round One draw, we can now confirm that our opening game of the 2020-21 campaign will be at Madejski Stadium against Colchester United.
The draw took place live on Sky Sports News at 10am today and ball no.29 was drawn out by Paul Merson to pit Mark Bowen's men against Colchester United at Madejski Stadium in the first round of the competition.
We last played Colchester United in this very competition back in 2015, a 115th minute winner from Chris Gunter earning Reading the win that evening.
Prior to that game, our last competitive fixture against the Us was in 2002, when a Nicky Forster brace helped Reading run away with a 3-0 league win at the Madejski.
Ties are scheduled to be played over the weekend of 5th/6th September, however clubs are able to choose - if mutually agreed - an alternative date prior to the start of the international window which commences on 31st August.
Last season, the Royals beat Wycombe on penalties before knocking our Plymouth at Home Park before bowing out at Molineux - edged out by Premier League Wolves in a Round Three shootout.
Colchester, meanwhile, knocked out Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hospur on their way to the quarter-finals!
