On Saturday 20th June 2020, Joe Ritchie-Bennett, James Furlong and David Wails lost their lives in the most tragic of circumstances in Forbury Gardens.
In these heartbreaking circumstances, our town continues to try to rally round to support their friends and families.
At Reading FC, the message was clear – we are ‘Together’ with our town.
Our fan-funded flag sat proudly in the East Stand for our final few fixtures, and our players warmed up in ‘Together’ shirts ahead of our fixture with Brentford as we paid our tributes.
Some of these shirts were signed by our first-team squad after the game and donated back to fan-run site 'Elm Park Royals', where they were this week soled off for a second time to raise more money for the Forbury Gardens memorial fund. The nature of the memorial will be chosen by the victims’ families, and arranged by Reading Borough Council.
Added to the £300 price the club originally donated for the t-shirts and other donations made for t-shirts via the Elm Park Royals account, this comes to a fabulous donation total of £1,110 - raised by our fans!
Thank you.
