Reading vs Barnsley
Sky Bet Championship
Saturday 29th February 2020, 3pm
Madejski Stadium

There's always another game around the corner in the Sky Bet Championship, and the Royals will be glad to get Wednesday night's defeat out of their minds as they get ready to welcome an in-form Barnsley side to Madejski Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Tykes are still in the relegation zone as the table stands, but they have clawed their way closer to safety by winning their last three Championship matches.

Gerhard Struber's side have also kept clean sheets in each of those victories, showing that the Reds will be a stern test for the Royals on Saturday.

Reading will be hoping for an immediate response to a midweek defeat, with three points offering them the chance to move further away from the Championship's bottom three once more.

After being unable to come on in midweek through a knee injury, George Pușcaș will be monitored ahead of the weekend's match. Lucas João, Lucas Boyé, Chris Gunter, Matt Miazga and Tom McIntyre all remain sidelined, though.

Your vocal support will be needed as ever in another crucial match for Reading this weekend. There's plenty going on around the ground before the match too, so get here early and back the boys on Saturday!

Blue Light Day

On Saturday, we welcome our local emergency services to Madejski Stadium to thank them and show recognition of all their hard work and invaluable support they provide to Reading FC on matchday and beyond.

In the Fanzone from 1.30pm, there will be a fire engine, police vehicles and and ambulance for supporters to have a look inside.

Fans are also invited to chat to emergency service staff about local recruitment opportunities, what the job is really like and how to get involved.

You're welcome to take a selfie in a police car, peek inside an ambulance and, all being well, the local police dogs unit are due to join us on Saturday afternoon.

World Book Day

Elsewhere, in preparation for World Book Day on Thursday 5th March, young Royals supporters will be able to pick up a copy of a free book in conjunction with WHSmith.

Match officials

Jeremy Simpson will be overseeing proceedings at Madejski Stadium on Saturday, in his first visit to RG2 this season.

Mr Simpson was on the whistle at the DW Stadium back in November when Reading were able to produce a fine comeback to beat Wigan, and he last took charge of Barnsley in their 3-0 home defeat to Play-Off chasing Preston in mid-January.

The Lancashire-based official has refereed games throughout the EFL pyramid this season, though predominantly in the Championship - showing around three yellow cards per match on average, while also brandishing the red card six times so far in 2019-20.

He will be assisted on the touchlines by Nigel Lugg and Robert Hyde, with Mark Pottage between the benches as fourth official.

Food & Drink

Make sure you follow @bluecollarfood on Twitter to find out their latest news, where they’ll be announcing what fantastic food outlets will be located where for the first fixture.

Also, please note that for the 2019-20 season, we are prioritising contactless card payments on kiosks within the concourses at Madejski Stadium - meaning quicker service for all. There will be only one cash till per kiosk so please ensure you have card payment if possible.

EFL clubs united in tackling discrimination

The EFL and EFL Clubs are united in tackling discrimination and prejudiced behaviour in all its forms and are reminding supporters that no forms of abuse will be tolerated ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.

Everyone attending or taking part in a football match has the right to feel safe, valued and included and supporters are therefore being reminded of the positive steps that can be taken on matchdays.

The EFL have suggested a protocol for supporters to follow if you ever find yourself needing to report discrimination of any form at a match, which you can find by clicking here.
