Youngsters to face Everton and Marlow in cup competitions

27 February 2020

Reading’s Under-23s will contest knock-out matches in the Premier League Cup and Berks & Bucks Senior Cup within the space of four days at the start of March.

After qualifying from a PL Cup group which contained Charlton, Swansea and Colchester, the Royals will visit Everton at The Pure Stadium in Southport on Sunday 8th March (2pm).

And then our U23s take on local opposition when they enter the Berks & Bucks Cup at the Quarter-Final stage to take on Marlow at the Alfred Davis Memorial Ground on Wednesday 11th March (7.45pm).

Premier League Cup Round of 16

The Royals have a solid history in the Premier League Cup – winning the competition in its inaugural year in 2014, and then finishing as runners-up to Swansea in 2017.

This year, Reading closed their group fixtures level on points with Charlton after drawing 2-2 in their last outing in Group A – losing out on top spot just on goal difference. Meanwhile the Toffees topped their group with 13 points from six fixtures to set up this fixture with the Royals.

Now our youngsters meet their Everton counterparts at Southport, with a place in the Quarter-Final up for grabs.

Berks & Bucks Senior Cup Quarter-Final

Then three days later, it’s a more local affair when our U23s travel to Isthmian League South side Marlow, who overcame National League opposition in Maidenhead United in the last round, beating the side three divisions above them on penalties.

As always, the competition offers our representative side a fantastic opportunity to pit their wits against senior footballers.

Scott Marshall's side made it through to the final of last season's running of the competition, losing out 3-1 to an experienced Slough Town side to earn runners-up medals on the day.
